Putting the ! back in PANIC
Tuesday, 28 July 2009
SO.
I'm back in Melbourne.
It's shaping up to be another tough as nails semester. But, such is life.
And instead of complaining and endlessly whinging about it, I guess, for now, I just gotta grit my teeth and get jiggy with it.
Until my brains suffocate and I suffer a mental breakdown of course, then naturally I'll be back on this webpage, bitching and moaning, and generally embracing my emo alter ego.
But till then, I intend, or at least I'll attempt (badly, I'm sure) to be a ray of optimistic sunshine so bright it'll blind your eyes and give you skin cancer.

Prof. Ian Beveridge, you scare me
Wednesday, 22 April 2009
Oh and by the way, you know you've seen everything when your Parasitology lecturer breaks a ginormous piece of faecal pat with his BARE hands. I repeat, cow shit, no gloves.
You're the man, prof, you know you are.

Jason Mraz Live in Melbourne
Tuesday, 21 April 2009
YES, the wordplay maestro himself, Mr. Mraz!
What can I say? IT WAS SO BLOODY AWESOME!
The crowd interaction was the best ever! Chanting nonsensical lines after him; mexican waves; the oh-off orchestrated by opening act Eric Hutchinson; throwing Polaroids of the band at the crowd. It was FANTASTIC. And the crowd was so cooperative and just so fun to be a part of.
I have to say my favourite part of the 3 hour long concert (yes, it was a damn long show, which means your moneys' worth! HAHA) was his encore piece, Mr. Curiosity, when he went all opera-ish on us and just belted out all these high notes. The funny thing is, just the other day, as I was listening to this song on my Ipod, I wondered how he'll be able to sing that song live. And he did actually sing it(!), and boy, was this live version so much better than the album one.
Another highlight of the concert was definitely when he sang "I'm Yours". Unsurprisingly, being such a popular song on the charts and radio, it was truly a crowd pleasing piece and really got us excited and singing along. But the best bit wasn't the amusing mob reaction to the song (we were all SO hyper), it was that he made me fall in love with the song all over again. I remember the first time I heard it was in 2006, in Trinity, when Mike and Nick from Palmerston House covered the song during one of our many karaoke sessions. I absolutely loved that song. The catchy melody, the crack lyrics, it was delicious delicious ear candy. It became one of the top 25 most played songs on my iTunes that year after Jay Chou's "Qian Li Zhi Wai". Then, suddenly, last year, the song basically exploded everywhere. It was so overplayed, I automatically changed radio stations when I heard that familiar guitar intro. But, when he sang it tonight so beautifully, I fell in love with it all over again. XD
Jason Mraz is truly one of the more talented and better live musicians out there. His voice is so dreamy and soothing and oh, just terrific. He sounds like a million times better live than in his studio recordings. How awesome is that???
Ah, bliss. I'm so happy. Contentment. Best decision I ever made going to this gig plus for waking up so early to buy the tickets and grab the awesome seats we got.
Row row row a boat, gently down the stream, merrily merrily, life is but a dream...(=

PICTURES!!!

This Stage and That Stage had the bigger acts. The Other Stage had the lesser known bands. The Virgin Mobile Stage had mostly local Aussie artists.

Villians of Wilhelm. They were okay-ish.

Duffy (she's so tiny in real life!) and her Barbie Doll twin backup singers. We were so freaking close to the stage, like just behind the barrier thingy.

Razorlight were quite good actually, I might start listening to their music. Also, the lead singer pulled a Chris Martin and jumped past security to be groped by fans, so that was awesome to witness.

He looks kinda like Danny Jones (Mcfly) from this angle. HAHA.

KAISER CHIEFS!!! OMG, THEY WERE SOOOOO GOOD!!! Can you tell how close we were to the stage by this pic? Be jealous please. =P

THE KILLERS!!! BRANDON FLOWERS!!! PLAYING ALL THEIR BEST SONGS!!! Need I say more? =)

This piano is so cool and kick-ass and SHINY.

Worship me! ROAR.

Thanks girls for the great company! It would not have been the same without you!
P.S I got a drumstick. A FREAKING DRUMSTICK!!! WOOT!!! I acquired it rather unfairly though... But all fairs in war. Teehee.
P.P.S you may have noticed the obvious lack of Snow Patrol. Well, guess what? We didn't get to see them. Why? Check this out:
This Stage
Kaiser Chiefs 6.45-7.45
The Killers 8.15-8.45
That Stage
Snow Patrol 7.15-8.30
I ASK YOU HOW LAH LIKE THAT?! So we chose to stick to This Stage since 2 out of 3 big acts were performing there. ARGH! If I'd known, I'd have gone for the Snow Patrol sideshow. Hopefully next time, they won't arrange it so the big acts clash, although in my opinion, it's quite common sense to not do that lor.
Overall, VFest was still damn awesome! I may have missed Pushover Fest and Mcfly (HUGE REGRET) but I didn't miss this one! Yay me!
Jason Mraz next! Oh yeah, bring on the rock gigs!
